Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Catherine Kennedy has worked with children, adolescents, and young adults for over 12 years. For the past 7 years she has worked in Fairfax County Public Schools. As a school social worker, Catherine provides individual and group counseling, family support, and crisis management to students and their families. She has extensive experience dealing with issues involving anxiety, stress, depression, school refusal, life transitions, and executive functioning. Catherine uses the following approaches in therapy: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, mindfulness, expressive therapy and  strength-based approaches.


Catherine received her Bachelors of Arts from Connecticut College in 2004, where she majored in Psychology and minored in Human Development. She then received her Masters of Social Work in 2008 from Boston College, where she specialized in Mental Health. Prior to FCPS, Catherine worked as a school-based social worker in Boston Public Schools and as a family therapist in an intensive therapeutic school for children and adolescents.

Catherine lives with her husband and two young children in Maryland.  Outside of work, Catherine enjoys exercising, crafting, and playing outside with her children.
