Sharon Powers
Resident in Counseling
Sharon is passionate about supporting children and adolescents, recognizing the profound impact that early mental health support can have on a young person’s life. With warmth, empathy, and a collaborative style, she meets clients where they are—tailoring her approach to each child’s unique age, needs, and developmental stage.
Sharon’s work is person-centered and integrates techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT). She helps children and teens build resilience, develop healthy coping skills, and improve self-esteem. By focusing on strengths and honoring each client’s individual context, Sharon empowers young people to feel more confident and capable—both now and in the future. She also partners with families to reinforce new skills outside of sessions, supporting lasting progress.
With over 14 years of experience as a school counselor in Northern Virginia, Sharon has supported students through everyday challenges, life transitions, and moments of significant growth. This background has given her deep insight into the social and emotional pressures today’s youth face, as well as the importance of creating a safe, supportive space where they feel heard and understood.
Sharon holds a Master’s degree in Counseling from Old Dominion University and a Bachelor of Science degree from James Madison University.
Outside of her professional life, Sharon enjoys spending time with her family. As a mom of three, she relates to the parenting experience firsthand and brings a compassionate, relatable perspective to her work with families.
