MEET MARIA PERROOTS

Maria Peroots
Resident in Counseling

Maria seeks to create a therapeutic relationship where safety, compassion, humor, curiosity, warmth, and support are all found. She believes the journey to healing begins with feeling heard, accepted, and empowered to celebrate one’s unique strengths. Maria treats a variety of challenges including life transitions, women’s issues, relationship issues, communication, anxiety, and depression.

Maria tailors her therapeutic approach based on the goals of each individual, focusing on holistic practices. She incorporates components of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), strength-based therapy, humanistic therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, and art therapy techniques whenever possible.

Maria completed her undergraduate degree at West Virginia University where she majored in Strategic Communications and completed her Master’s Degree at Bowie State University in Mental Health Counseling. She previously served as a psychotherapist in an intensive outpatient facility. She looks forward to gaining experience as a Resident in Counseling at THLH, with a diverse population.

When she is not working, Maria enjoys spending quality time with her baby girl and husband. She loves getting creative in the kitchen, traveling to new destinations, and playing with makeup.
