MEET JENNIFER
YANG

School Psychology Resident

Jennifer is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) who has worked with children, adolescents, and adults in Virginia, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Students have described her as “epic,” “awesome,” and “the best psychologist ever.” Parents and caregivers have commended  her coaching in behavioral strategies and her promotion of healthy family functioning. She draws on training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Mindfulness. Jennifer is passionate about working with twice-exceptional students; about fostering social skills and emotional self-regulation; and about promoting the strengths, resiliency, and self-advocacy of families.
 

Most recently, Jennifer served as School Psychologist and Behaviorist in Piscataway Township, New Jersey. Her responsibilities included group and individual counseling; crisis intervention; development and implementation of IEPs and Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs); prevention and oversight of Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying (HIB); and professional development of teachers on mental health topics. As a School Psychologist with Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) from 2014 to 2018, Jennifer worked at a Comprehensive Services Site (CSS) for students with severe social and emotional challenges. In addition to her work in public schools, Jennifer has a background in solution focused therapy at the Emergency Department of Columbia University Medical Center in New York City.
 

After studying psychology at Vassar College, Jennifer graduated from Lehigh University with both an Educationalist Specialist degree in School Psychology and a Master's degree in Human Development. She has advanced training in autism inclusion and in ADHD in preschool-aged children. She is a member of the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), the Virginia Academy of School Psychologists (VASP), and the New Jersey Association of School Psychologists (NJASP). 

 

Jennifer resides in McLean, Virginia with her husband, two children (ages 4 and 6), and the family’s corgi and very fluffy cat. When not seeing clients or chasing her rambunctious children, Jennifer enjoys gardening, baking, knitting, and watching anime.
