MEET LUCIANA OLIVEIRA

Our therapists are here to help. Meet Luciana Oliveira our social work resident specializing in toddlers and elementary age children.
Resident in Social Work

Luciana offers culturally sensitive psychotherapy to toddlers and elementary-age children who may struggle with anxiety, behavioral issues, learning and intellectual disabilities, and school challenges. She utilizes an emotionally focused strength-based approach to help children understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and their body’s physical reactions. Children can develop and strengthen their self-confidence, impulse control, and coping skills through this holistic process. Luciana incorporates strategies from Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Mindfulness-Based (MBCT), Play, Attachment-Based, and Trauma Focused therapy modalities to encourage emotional awareness, regulation, and expression. She is also an auxiliary school social worker for early childhood special education in Fairfax County Public Schools.

Luciana has experience in diverse settings with various age groups and diagnoses. Before joining the Think Happy Live Healthy team, she worked in day programs for adults with disabilities, and in-home assessment and early intervention for infants and toddlers.

Luciana earned a bachelor’s degree in Community Health and a Master of Clinical Social Work, concentrating on children, youth, and families from George Mason University. She is licensed as a Master Social Worker. Luciana is working to obtain licensure in Clinical Social Work under the supervision of Susan Fertig as a Resident in Social Work. She is also a doctoral student studying Infant and Early Childhood Development, focusing on mental health and developmental disorders.

Luciana is a member of the American Association of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
