MEET KATIE WOOD

Katie Wood is a school psychologist resident at Think Happy Live Healthy.
School Psychology Resident

Katie has worked with children and adolescents, ages 6-20 years old in schools and specialized educational programs for over a decade. Her experience includes conducting individual and group counseling, administering comprehensive psychological evaluations, developing functional behavioral assessments, creating individualized behavioral support plans, and providing consultation to school staff and parents to support the social, emotional, behavioral, and learning needs of children and adolescents. Currently, Katie is also employed as a school psychologist in Alexandria City Public Schools.


Throughout her career, Katie has treated children and adolescents with a variety of concerns including: ADHD and executive functioning deficits, anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, exposure to trauma, grief and loss, learning disabilities, social skills (including specifics to ASD), and stress management.

Katie is passionate about building positive relationships and remaining person focused, while also encouraging children and adolescents to challenge negative thoughts or behavioral patterns in order to build their toolbox of adaptive coping strategies. Katie has formal training in cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectic behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, and trauma informed care. She utilized each of these frameworks to help children and adolescents build their self-esteem and self-regulation skills in a manner that is personalized to their needs.

Katie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at Rowan University and her Master of Arts and Educational Specialist degrees in School Psychology at Georgian Court University. She is a member of the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), the Virginia Association of School Psychologist (VASP), and the DC Psychological Association (DCPA).

In her free time, Katie enjoys reading novels, rowing crew, playing softball, biking along the trails in Northern Virginia, and spending time with her friends and family.

Katie is a Resident in School Psychology and is working to obtain licensure under the supervision of Christine Willing.
