Derek Henderson, MA, NCSP
Licensed School Psychologist
Derek is a Licensed School Psychologist with over a decade of experience in the public school and private settings. Derek is passionate about helping children and their families make positive changes in their life and navigate challenges including but not limited to: anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, impulse control, attention/executive functioning weaknesses, social stress, academic stress, and learning differences. Derek also specializes in administering psychological and psychoeducational evaluations.
Derek's goal is to inspire you to engage in more productive thinking, make positive changes in your life, and incorporate habits which lead to a healthier and happier life. Derek provides individual psychotherapy to children (age 6 and over), adolescents, and young adults. Derek believes in a strong therapeutic relationship and also enjoys using humor when appropriate. Derek's approach is primarily solution focused and incorporates positive psychology practices and principles. Derek also incorporates other approaches such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness. When working with clients, Derek focuses on skill development compared to viewing behavior as a deficit or weakness. Derek also believes strongly in working collaboratively with parents to help reinforce skills.
Derek is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist and holds a Master’s degree in School Psychology from George Mason University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Dayton. Outside of work, Derek is passionate about outdoor activities, exercising, watching sports, and spending time with friends and family.
