What Are Psychiatry Services?

At Think Happy Live Healthy, our psychiatry services are designed to help children, teens, and adults manage mental health conditions through a combination of medical expertise and compassionate care.

Unlike traditional therapy, which usually focuses on talk-based strategies to address emotional and behavioral concerns, psychiatry involves the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental health disorders using both therapeutic and medical approaches, including medication management. Our board-certified psychiatric providers work closely with clients to develop personalized treatment plans that support their mental, emotional, and general wellbeing.

Our providers collaborate directly with therapists, school psychologists, and other members of each client's care team, ensuring every treatment plan reflects a coordinated, complete picture of that person's needs. For children and families, this kind of coordination across educators, pediatricians, and mental health professionals often makes the biggest difference.

WHO WE HELP

Who We Serve: Children, Teens, and Adults

We provide comprehensive psychiatric care for children, adolescents, and adults, supporting a wide range of mental health concerns across the lifespan. Because our practice includes both therapists and psychiatric providers under one roof, families and individuals receive coordinated support rather than fragmented care across multiple providers.

CHILDREN & ADOLESCENTS

School-age children whose mental health needs intersect with academic performance, behavioral challenges, and family dynamics. We work closely with parents, caregivers, and schools when appropriate to ensure a collaborative and supportive treatment experience.

TEENAGERS

Teens navigating the pressures of adolescence, including mood changes, identity concerns, attention challenges, and social anxiety. Our providers offer developmentally appropriate, compassionate care.

ADULTS

Adults managing a wide range of mental health conditions, from anxiety and depression to PTSD and ADHD. We support both immediate concerns and long-term mental health stability.

CHILD & ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES

We provide psychiatric evaluation and medication management for:

  • ADHD

  • Anxiety disorders, including separation anxiety, generalized anxiety, and social anxiety

  • Depression

  • Mood dysregulation

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder, in collaboration with psychological testing

  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder and other behavioral challenges

  • Sleep concerns

  • Adjustment difficulties, including divorce, grief, and school transitions

OUR CHILD-CENTERED APPROACH

Our approach is child-centered and trauma-informed, with an emphasis on family involvement and whole-child wellness.

We collaborate directly with therapists and school psychologists to ensure children receive integrated support that accounts for their academic, behavioral, and family contexts. For families navigating complex systems, having a psychiatric provider and therapist coordinating within a single practice makes a meaningful difference.

Available in person at our Falls Church and Ashburn, VA locations, and online throughout Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC.

MATERNAL MENTAL HEALTH

Perinatal and Postpartum Psychiatric Care

Perinatal and postpartum mental health is a specialized area of psychiatry focused on the emotional and psychological wellbeing of individuals during pregnancy and after birth. These conditions are far more common than many people expect, and they are frequently undertreated, in part because new and expecting parents are often uncertain whether psychiatric support is available or safe to pursue while pregnant or breastfeeding.

At Think Happy Live Healthy, we have dedicated clinical expertise for this area of care. Saba Rastegar, DNP, PMHNP-BC, IBCLC, is both a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. That combination of credentials is rare in psychiatric practice. It means that questions about medication safety during breastfeeding, the impact of psychiatric conditions on feeding and bonding relationships, and the intersection of physical and emotional recovery after birth can all be addressed within the same care relationship. You do not have to choose between getting mental health support and protecting your feeding goals.

Her integrative approach draws on an understanding of the full perinatal experience, including the hormonal and physical changes of pregnancy and postpartum recovery, the pressures of early parenthood and infant feeding, and the emotional shifts that can affect mood, identity, and daily functioning in ways that are distinct from other periods of life. Psychiatric evaluation and, when appropriate, medication management are provided with that full picture in mind.
