How Exercise Makes You Happier

We all know the benefits of exercise for maintaining healthy weight and preventing certain diseases. What about the effects on your brain and mood?

The mind and body are intrinsically connected. By improving your physical health, you promote mental and emotional well-being. HOW? Regular exercise releases those really awesome, feel good chemicals into our bodies.

Endorphins-when released lift your mood and provide energy.

Tip: Laughter also releases endorphins!

Dopamine– a key neurotransmitter necessary for feelings of pleasure and happiness. It also motivates us to take action towards goals, desires, and needs by reinforcing pleasure when achieving them.

Serotonin-a chemical that increases when you regularly work out and is responsible for happiness, sleep, and a healthy appetite. More of this means more energy and clearer thinking.

Just by exercising you are naturally becoming healthier and happier!   Studies have shown that exercising regularly can help decrease feelings of depression, anxiety and stress.

Kids can also benefit from regular exercise. Exercise has been shown to boost self-esteem and create better self-images. So be a role model for your kids and choose fun ways to incorporate exercise into daily life.

There are some days where I work 13 hours. Some of it can be quite stressful and at the end of the day all I want to do is collapse on the couch and watch TV. But if I just force myself to go outside for a walk or walk towards the gym, then before I know it that second wave of energy comes (endorphins) and I am sprinting away all that stress. After that collapsing on that couch feels oh so rewarding.

We offer individualized exercise programs as well as yoga for kids! If you are interested in learning more please feel free to contact us @ thinkhappylivehealthy@gmail.com.
